The 12th South Farmer's Market has become one of our favorite summer evening past-times. We love to meet there after work with the kiddos and grab a grilled cheese and ice cream. We stroll down to the market, park ourselves at a picnic bench, and chow down. Tonight I got a grilled cheese with avocado (cheese and avocado are my favorite combination on anything- especially on a hot dog...trust me) and dark chocolate and strawberry ice cream. The ice cream is Jeni's Splendid and it is the absolute best ice cream I have ever eaten (and this is coming from a self-proclaimed ice cream connoisseur).
And to top off an already wonderful evening, we head over to the little kid’s playground. Just walk on by the bustling big kids and the noisy swings and you come to a peaceful, cozy little gem of a playground that is the perfect size for your toddler. Sounds like a fairy tale, but it’s a dream come true. The bug has a blast running around, the bub snoozes in his stroller, and my husband and I snap pictures and video. Then we look around and realize we are the only parents hovering with cameras in hand and we laugh at ourselves. Oh and I can’t forget the part where the bug very loudly, and very proficiently, sang “ba ba black sheep” and “twinkle twinkle little star” through the parking lot. She got quite a few smiles from her little performance – what a ham! She also said “sorry” for standing in a kid’s way on the playground stairs…so sweet that one.
I’m so glad that we have the chance to do weekday outings as a family. And I’m so thankful for beautiful, long summer evenings that allow us that opportunity.
